RECIPES

FOR YOU!

Having frustrations browsing through multiple recipes on different platforms all at once?

WORRY NOT!

Yes Chef is a recipe sharing app inspired by tiktoks, reels, and YouTube cooking videos put all in one uniform space, allowing users to upload, share, browse, try and rate recipes from around the world. Our goal is to provide you with access to global food recipes so you can try them yourself and share great food joy with others (without having to wade through the backstory)!

Through User Research we focused on...

1) Examining what aspects of the recipe search/browsing process may deter/frustrate users.
2) Exploring solutions for minimizing the amount of variance & fatigue when browsing & comparing recipes.

3) Creating the most efficient use of our users time from the browsing process, all the way to the cooking process.

Interview Takeaways:

  • Many interviewees were within the age of 25-35, which we hypothesized our user group to be

  • Data shows many enjoy cooking leisurely, trying new recipes, & experiencing new cooking challenges

  • Majority of the interviewees has cooking history growing up or is familiar with helping/being in the kitchen

  • Many are not professional cooks, but are deemed proficient home cooks and are comfortable with their skill level

  • When asked how people felt about cooking new recipes, many are confident they can follow and cook the recipe well. A few did state they’d prefer to freestyle rather than follow a recipe

  • Majority interviewees find browsing and picking recipes to be tedious and somewhat frustrating. Browsing through social media platforms with quick & short video instructions are helpful, but many do not enjoy browsing online endlessly

  • What deters our users from recipe hunting? Having to read through paragraphs in order to view ingredients list and recipe instructions. Hard-to-find ingredients with no substitute, difference in culture and cooking tools, and much more

Survey States:

  • Users often cook 1-2 times a week

  • Most have proficient cooking skills

  • Many users don't mind browsing for new recipes

  • Users find cooking inspiration from online resources or social media platforms

  • And users don't often share or post their recipes online

What our Prototypes & Testing looked like...

1) Sketches & ideations from low-fi, mid-fi, to final product
2) A/B testing on user flow on how we should design our landing page for users

3) Final product along with reviews & future ideas we want to implement

Checkout the beginning stages of prototyping, our low-fi prototype!

After our user research, we brainstormed individually as a team and came together to put our thoughts together. We came up with multiple mockups and layouts of what we think would help our users within this app using the research we have done. Below was one of our main mockups we ended up revising for the final.

And guess what? We also did some A/B Testing!

Can you spot what we were testing?

After wireframing and ideating our low-fi prototype, we came across a decision-making obstacle, what format would our users like best and what would make most sense for our user's flow? In order to find a more definite answer, we conducted A/B user testing with our users to decide how we proceed with our product.

Let's all not forget the hard work that went into our user flows as well.

After ideating, sketching, and wireframing, images below are the user flows for each feature we focused on for our users in our recipe app. You can see the in-depth step-by-step users would take from onboarding, browse/search/view, profile set up, and cooking/selecting recipes.

After all that hard work, we have a mid-fi prototype to showcase iterations

After establishing user flows after low-fi prototypes, we gathered all the information we have learned and wireframed and prototyped a mid-fi prototype. For this prototype, we brought in features, create pathways that would be most beneficial to our users and this product.

We were quite extra and also did an app promotional website. Just to showcase our wonderful final product & idea.

What we can do better. Feedback is always key. Our future suggestions & reflections.

After completing this project and its case study, our team got together and jot down suggestion ideas for future mockup, changes we'd want to see, and features we'd like to focus more on in the future.

01

Expand more on accessibility features to meet a broader set of needs for our users.

02

Further explore the community aspect of our recipe app.

03

Add more interactive features and expand more on the creator's features of our app.

04

Explore more of our other features that we didn't get to expand on such as the browse/search and create/post features.
